MEMBERSHIP INFO

Thank you for your interest in the Bay Area Human Resources Executives Council. We are pleased to provide you with this information regarding our organization and an application for membership.

The Bay Area Human Resource Executives Council (BAHREC) is unique among area human resource groups, being limited to the very senior human resource directors and vice presidents of major employers in the Bay Area. We are a relatively small, informal chapter of about 100 members and our only imposing rules regard membership, which is by qualification, invitation, and Board approval. We invite top-notch speakers to discuss and present informational topics of expertise that provide value and are pertinent to our membership regarding HR trends, services, and professional experience.

The purpose of the Council is as follows:

a. To provide opportunities for networking, exchange of information and continuing professional development among senior human resource executives.

b. To enable members to participate in activities in support of raising the quality of leadership within the profession and to contribute to the development of individuals who aspire to careers in human resources.

Regular membership is open only to practicing human resource professionals responsible for providing HR services within a profit-making or non-profit corporation, or independent subsidiary thereof, or an academic institution. Membership shall be granted without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, physical or mental disabilities, or veteran or marital status.

We invite you to apply as a senior Human Resource executive who may meet our following membership criteria:

1. First priority for membership is an individual who has 10 or more years of human resources management experience and who serves as the senior executive in a human resource generalist role in that corporation or subsidiary.

2. The second priority for membership is an individual who has 10 or more years' exempt HR management experience, who now reports directly or on a dotted line to the human resources professional ultimately responsible for the total organization, and who serves in a generalist capacity as the HR executive for a major organizational segment, and/or manages one or more major HR functions, e.g., Compensation and Benefits, Training and Development, etc. for that corporation.

3. An exception may be voted for an individual who has 10 or more years' line management experience who is appointed to the senior human resources executive position within an organization which meets the criteria under (1) above.

4. Membership is limited to no more than five persons from any one corporation.

5. The applicant agrees to adhere to the standards of professionalism and confidentiality of discussions held within the Bay Area Human Resource Executives Council.

Membership is not open to consultants who are not actively involved in the activities described above or to those who are not currently employed in a qualifying position, at the time they apply or are accepted for membership. Continued membership is contingent upon the member's current involvement in human resource related activities, recent participation in Council meetings and activities, and professional standing in the HR business community.

BAHREC is affiliated with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Membership in national SHRM, while encouraged, is optional. Rather, we are primarily interested in senior level presentations and policy discussions among our local HR peers. Networking is a key ingredient for success, therefore regular attendance and participation are necessary and expected of all members.

Our meetings are normally held on the third Wednesday of each month, ten months of the year. They typically include a social hour, dinner, short business meeting, and a guest speaker/ program. We also invite members and their guest to an annual social event, usually in September. Monthly meeting costs, including dinner and wine, are $45 for members or $55 for guests of a member, at present. We ask applicants to attend one dinner meeting, paying member rates, prior to the Board formally acting upon their application.

Prospective members in the Council shall be requested to submit payment of annual Council dues at the time of application, along with a one-time membership admission fee of $100. Current annual Bay Area Human Resource Executives Council dues are only $125 per year. We ask all applicants to submit both the new membership admission fee and the 2004 annual dues with their written application. A full refund will be made should the Board of Directors for any reason decline your membership. Council dues for continuing members in the Council shall be payable on January 1 of each calendar year.

You are invited to apply for membership in BAHREC, contingent upon your meeting the qualifications stated above and agreeing to comply with the association's By-Laws, which can be found on this web site. If you do and would like to apply, please complete the membership application, attach a current resume, include a check made payable to BAHREC, and return them to:
